Definitely Maybe

In 1947 when Denis Compton broke the record by scoring eighteen centuries, the story is told that during one match when batting with Bill Edrich for Middlesex he swept a ball from outside the off stump round to fine leg. Completely ignoring the fact that it was Bill Edrich's call, Denis shouted, 'Yes', then, as the fielder swooped on the ball yelled again, 'No!', and as the fielder didn't collect the ball cleanly, finally shouted 'Maybe!'
